  1. Michael Goh says:

The guitarist was good but I did not really find any pieces that would stand out as “great” and “nice” that would make me want to hear it over and over again.

  2. this is an excellent interpretation of classic filipino melodies, rick alcoy, aka, rick ickard is not only a virtuoso guitarist, but a true artist. A good classical guitar player can play these tunes, but rick ickard plays it in a way that it brings new life, to these classic filipino melodies. His interpretations of, “Sa Ugoy Ng Duyan, Bituin Marikit,” just to name a few, is dreamlike and heart warming. Highly recommended.

The melodies are haunting, the playing sublime, and the listening experience a complete joy. Mr. Ickard, best known as the arranger and guitarist for the “jazzipino” star Charmaine Clamor — he’s on the cover of her “My Harana” album — is a genuine master of the guitar, and his sensitivity and emotional connection with the music of his homeland make a lasting impression. This is the CD I listen to while painting in my studio. It’s what beauty sounds like.
